Dubai Health has officially embraced the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI), reinforcing its dedication to a robust patient safety roadmap that aligns with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. This move reflects Dubai Health's commitment to its ‘Patient First’ ethos, placing the patient’s voice at the heart of its initiatives and ensuring that safety is prioritized across all levels of its integrated health system.

The PSFHI aims to improve patient outcomes while fostering an environment that emphasizes collaboration and continuous learning. By focusing on high-quality, patient-centered care, this initiative also supports the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which seeks to establish a world-class healthcare system characterized by the highest quality standards.

His Excellency Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health, emphasized the importance of cultivating a strong safety culture. He stated, “Fostering a strong culture of safety allows Dubai Health to deliver exceptional outcomes and prioritize what matters most: the well-being of our patients. We will continue to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone who walks through our doors. Every day, our physicians, nurses, and team members go above and beyond to deliver safe and compassionate care. Their passion is inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful for their contributions and dedication.”

Dr. Tarek Fathey, Chief Clinical Officer at Dubai Health, added that patient safety is not merely a goal but a fundamental principle guiding every decision. “At our integrated academic health system, our values influence how we engage with patients, students, and communities every day. Today, we unite to establish new standards that not only protect our patients but also empower our teams to deliver the highest quality of care,” he remarked.

A cornerstone of the initiative is a commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and nurturing a culture focused on safety and growth. To enhance this commitment, Dubai Health will welcome renowned patient safety expert Professor Charles Vincent from the University of Oxford in December 2024, further strengthening their approach to learning and safety.

Dr. Entesar Alhammadi, Chair of Patient Safety and Quality at Dubai Health, reaffirmed the organization's unwavering commitment to patient safety. “The safety and well-being of our patients form the foundation of everything we do. By empowering our teams to prioritize patient safety, we are fostering a culture where safety becomes a shared responsibility. This initiative paves the way for everyone to contribute to setting a new standard in patient care.”

Through the implementation of the PSFHI, Dubai Health aims to create a transformative impact on patient safety and quality of care, reinforcing its position as a leader in healthcare excellence in the region.
