Zootopia 2 Returns With Fun Adventure but Less Wild Spark

Nearly ten years after the original film became a surprise hit, “Zootopia 2” has arrived in theatres, returning viewers to the vibrant animal metropolis where predators and prey live side by side. The sequel brings familiar charm, but with a noticeably gentler approach compared to its predecessor.

The new film once again follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, now newly minted police rookies. Their attempt to prove themselves leads to a chaotic chase across the city, enough to send Police Chief Bogo’s patience running out. The duo is ordered into a partner therapy session, where an odd mix of officers — including an elephant–mouse team — set the tone for the film’s theme of understanding differences.

While the first movie explored prejudice with sharp humor and layered storytelling, the sequel takes a milder route. Some of the original’s standout quirky characters appear briefly or not at all, giving the city a slightly more polished feel than before.

A major turn arrives when Judy uncovers clues about a ban on snakes in Zootopia, raising questions just as the city prepares for its 100-year celebration. When an unexpected snake visitor — Gary De’Snake — appears, Judy and Nick follow a trail that leads deep into the city’s past and its longstanding weather-wall system managed by the influential Lynxley family. Their investigation stretches from a reptile-friendly district inspired by New Orleans to the icy stretches of Tundatown.

New faces join the journey, including Nibbles Maplestick, a beaver podcaster, and a charismatic stallion mayor. The film sprinkles in familiar puns, light humor and a series of pop-culture nods that keep the atmosphere lively.

Despite its colourful world and entertaining caper energy, the film spends less time in the bustling heart of Zootopia, and Nick Wilde’s once razor-sharp hustler persona takes a softer turn. Even so, the central partnership between Judy and Nick remains the emotional anchor and main draw for families this season.

“Zootopia 2,” released by Walt Disney Co., carries a PG rating for action, mild violence and rude humor, with a runtime of 108 minutes.
