The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has expanded its network of electric vehicle (EV) Green Charger points to more than 740 across Dubai. This initiative supports the growing number of electric vehicles in the Emirate, which surpassed 34,970 by October 2024. These charging stations can be easily located by customers using DEWA’s website, smart app, and 14 other digital platforms.

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, explained the importance of this initiative. He said, “We are working towards the vision of our wise leadership to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world by using advanced technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014, aims to build a strong infrastructure for EV charging in Dubai. This supports the growing number of electric vehicles in the Emirate. The UAE has set a goal for 50% of cars on its roads to be electric by 2050. Recently, we introduced a new Regulatory and Licensing Framework to help develop and manage EV charging stations in Dubai. This is a big step toward promoting green transportation and achieving Dubai’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
DEWA has also issued the first two licenses for Independent Charge Point Operators (CPO) in Dubai to Tesla and UAEV. This is part of DEWA’s efforts to encourage private companies to participate in sustainability projects, reduce emissions in the transportation sector, and attract investments in green mobility infrastructure.
The EV Green Charger network includes various types of chargers, such as ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. This ensures that electric vehicle users in Dubai have access to a wide range of charging options, helping them transition to greener and cleaner modes of transportation. So far, 16,828 customers have benefitted from this growing network.
