A wave of panic swept through Delhi’s judicial complexes on Tuesday after Patiala House, Saket and Tis Hazari courts received bomb threats, triggering evacuations, emergency checks and a massive security response. The threats, which arrived via email, came on a day when Red Fort blast co-accused Jasir Bilal Wani was scheduled to appear before the Principal Sessions Judge at Patiala House Court.
Authorities later confirmed that all three threats were hoaxes, but the timing has raised serious concerns as investigators continue to unravel the terror plot behind the November 10 Red Fort blast that killed over 10 people.
Panic at Patiala House Ahead of High-Profile Appearance
The first alert was raised at Patiala House Court, where an email warned of an explosive planted on the premises just hours before Wani’s appearance. The Rapid Action Force (RAF), Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads were immediately deployed as the area was cordoned off and thoroughly scanned.
Security was significantly heightened as Jasir Bilal Wani—NIA’s second major arrest in the case—was brought to court following his capture by Jammu and Kashmir Police. Wani, also known as Danish, hails from Qazigund and was detained along with his uncle over the weekend.
Despite the scare, the court proceedings resumed, and the judge sent Wani to 10 days of NIA custody for further interrogation.
Saket and Tis Hazari Courts Also Targeted
Shortly after the Patiala House alert, Saket Court and Tis Hazari Court received similar bomb threat emails.
Advocate Anil Basoya, secretary of the Saket Bar Association, confirmed that court functioning was halted for nearly two hours as security personnel swept the building.
Tis Hazari Court officials also confirmed receiving the threat.
Advocate Tarun Rana, Secretary of the New Delhi Bar Association, said the emails targeted multiple district court complexes. All threats were later declared hoaxes.
“There is no element of fear. Courts are functioning smoothly,” he said.
The Red Fort Blast Case: Background and New Arrests
The bomb threats come amid intensified developments in the Red Fort blast investigation, which has uncovered a deeper terror network connected to the November 10 explosion that killed over 10 people.
The NIA recently arrested Jasir Bilal Wani, allegedly radicalised by prime accused Dr Umar un Nabi, who investigators now describe as a suicide bomber. Wani reportedly backed out of participating in suicide missions but continued assisting the module.
The Wani family lives next door to terror-linked brothers Dr Adil Rather and Dr Muzaffar Rather, key figures in the Faridabad module. Adil was earlier arrested in Uttar Pradesh, while Muzaffar remains missing.
The explosion itself was caused by a vehicle-borne IED hidden inside a Hyundai i20, which blew up at a traffic signal near the Red Fort. Forensic reports confirmed that Umar un Nabi was driving the car when it detonated.
Hoax Threats Raise Questions
While the bomb scares turned out to be false alarms, the timing—coinciding with Wani’s court appearance—has prompted questions about whether the threats were intended to create disruption, distract authorities, or instill public fear.
Security officials are examining the source of the emails to determine if they are linked to the same terror module or reflect attempts at mischief amid a highly sensitive probe.
What Happens Next
Investigators continue to map the full scale of the Red Fort blast conspiracy, including:
Whether more individuals were radicalised
Possible external handlers
Source and movement of explosives
Connection to previous suicide-based terror models
With the case rapidly developing, more arrests are expected in the coming days.
