Deepika Padukone’s 2025 has been a year of transitions. Initially attached to two major pan-India films, the projects have since changed. The actor publicly parted ways with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, exiting his film Spirit, and was later removed from the Kalki 2898 AD sequel directed by Nag Ashwin.
The 2024 blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD featured Deepika alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. Her exits sparked media attention, particularly as she reportedly asked for shorter work shifts due to her new motherhood, leading to her replacement by Triptii Dimri in Spirit.
In a recent interview, Deepika revealed that big-budget films no longer excite her. “Because honestly, how much more fame, how much more success, how much more money? At this stage, it’s not about that anymore. It’s not about the ₹100-crore films, or even the ₹500-₹600 crore ones,” she said.
Instead, Deepika is now focused on storytelling and supporting other creative talent. “What excites me is empowering other talent. My team and I are now focused on that—enabling storytelling and supporting other creative minds, writers, directors, and even new producers. That’s what feels meaningful to me now,” she added.
Despite stepping back from certain high-profile films, Deepika still has two major releases lined up. She will reunite with Shah Rukh Khan for King, directed by Siddharth Anand, which also stars Suhana Khan and is scheduled for 2026. She will also be seen opposite Allu Arjun in Atlee’s yet-untitled project, tentatively titled AA22xA6, expected in 2027.
