OpenAI explained that the problem happened because of an issue with a service from another company. They didn’t say which company caused the problem. Some users saw an "internal server error" message when they tried to use ChatGPT, meaning they couldn’t get answers or use the tool.
At the same time, Microsoft, which helps run OpenAI’s services, reported a “power issue” at one of its data centers in the United States. This problem affected several services, but it is not clear if it caused the ChatGPT outage. Microsoft is a big investor in OpenAI and also helps run its services in the cloud.
Microsoft said that the power problem happened in their South Central US data center and affected many services. They worked quickly to fix it and later confirmed that the power was fully restored. Although it is still unclear if the Microsoft issue caused the ChatGPT problem, the timing of both issues made some people think they might be related.
Now, OpenAI has confirmed that most of its services, including ChatGPT, are working again. While the outage caused frustration for users, everything seems to be running normally once more.
