As Yuvraj Singh celebrates his 43rd birthday today, the cricket community reflects on one of the sport's most iconic moments—his remarkable six sixes in an over during the 2007 T20 World Cup. The former Indian all-rounder, who began his international career in 2000 and hung up his boots in 2019, participated in 398 matches across formats, amassing over 11,000 international runs and leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary performances.
On September 19, 2007, at Kingsmead, Yuvraj unleashed an unforgettable attack on England's Stuart Broad, hitting six consecutive sixes and achieving a half-century in just 12 balls—a T20 record yet to be broken. His explosive innings contributed to India's formidable total of 218, securing an 18-run victory.
India went on to win the first-ever T20 World Cup, with Yuvraj's efforts being pivotal throughout the tournament. His excellence didn't stop there; in the 2011 ODI World Cup, he delivered one of the finest all-round performances, with 362 runs, 15 wickets, and four Man of the Match titles, earning him the Player of the Tournament distinction.
Across 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and 40 Tests, Yuvraj made an indelible mark as a game-changer with his aggressive batting, keen fielding, and clutch bowling. Even post-retirement in 2019, Yuvraj continues to embody resilience, flair, and the spirit of big matches in Indian cricket.
