Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool made tennis history on Tuesday by becoming the first all-British doubles pair to secure the year-end World No.1 ranking. The achievement came after their strong performance at the ATP Finals in Turin, where they defeated German duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 7-6(9), 6-2 in their second round-robin match at the Inalpi Arena.
The victory not only kept their semifinal hopes alive but also confirmed their position as the top-ranked doubles team for the season, regardless of the remaining matches.
Cash and Glasspool’s journey this year has been extraordinary. Starting the season as rising contenders, the pair has built impressive chemistry and consistency on court. Their combination of sharp net play, smart serves, and teamwork helped them dominate the ATP Tour, capturing seven titles in a single season.
Their triumphs included prestigious wins at Wimbledon and the Masters 1000 in Canada, two of the biggest achievements in professional doubles tennis. The pair’s success marks the first time an all-British men’s team has reached such heights in nearly nine decades.
One of their most memorable victories came at Wimbledon, where they became the first all-British men’s doubles champions since 1936. The win brought national pride and international recognition, marking a special moment in British tennis history.
Their Wimbledon run showcased their resilience, as they battled through tough matches and displayed calmness under pressure. Their teamwork on the grass court proved unstoppable, earning them respect from fans and fellow players alike.
Speaking after being presented with the Year-End ATP Doubles No.1 trophy on court, Julian Cash described the experience as “surreal.” He reflected on the hard work and dedication that led to their success.
“It’s been one crazy year, that’s for sure,” Cash said. “We put an awful lot of work in during the off-season. We’ve ticked off so many things this year, and I think we both truly believed at the start of the year that this was possible for us. To be standing here now is very surreal.”
Both players credited their trust in each other and their strong belief in their partnership for their success.
Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash’s connection began during their time in U.S. college tennis. Both players brought complementary strengths to the partnership—Cash’s sharp returns and Glasspool’s court control have made them one of the most balanced and feared doubles teams on tour.
Throughout the season, they have shown remarkable consistency, reaching finals and performing at a high level on different surfaces, from clay to grass to hard courts. Their friendship off the court has also helped them maintain focus and unity through challenges.
With their victory over Krawietz and Puetz, the British pair moved one step closer to qualifying for the semifinals of the ATP Finals. Their next and final group-stage match is scheduled against Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos on Thursday.
A win in that match would secure their place in the knockout rounds, giving them a chance to finish the season with another major title. Even if they do not progress further, their year-end No.1 ranking is already guaranteed — a reflection of their incredible consistency and dominance throughout 2025.
Their success adds to the growing strength of British tennis. With top singles players and now a world-leading doubles team, Britain has reestablished itself as a force in global tennis. The achievements of Cash and Glasspool have inspired young players to pursue doubles as a career path, an area that has historically received less attention.
The duo’s victory at the ATP Finals also brings hope that more British partnerships can follow in their footsteps in the coming years.
As they close a record-breaking season, Cash and Glasspool aim to carry their momentum into 2026. Their focus remains on improving their game, defending their Wimbledon crown, and continuing to inspire British tennis fans.
The pair’s calm determination, mutual respect, and hard work suggest that this is just the beginning of their journey at the top of the tennis world.
