On April 23, Indian national Kulwinder Singh Sohi, aged 26, tragically lost his life in a suburb of Vancouver, located in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The incident unfolded in the town of White Rock.

Canadian authorities have taken a significant step forward in the investigation, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announcing the arrest of a 28-year-old male in connection with Sohi's killing. However, the identity of the arrested individual has not been disclosed, maintaining the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The arrest was made possible with the assistance of the Integrated Emergency Response Team, highlighting the collaborative effort in addressing this crime. IHIT spokesperson Sgt Timothy Pierotti emphasized the active nature of the investigation, indicating that efforts are ongoing to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

The tragic event occurred late in the evening on April 23, prompting a response from officers at the White Rock detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Upon arrival at the scene on the White Rock Promenade, responders discovered Sohi suffering from fatal stab wounds. IHIT subsequently assumed control of the investigation, working in conjunction with various agencies to advance their inquiries.

Witnesses described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5’11, wearing a dark-colored hat and a grey hoodie. The incident took place in a highly public area, with eyewitnesses recounting a physical altercation between the victim and the suspect before the fatal attack occurred.

The community has been deeply shaken by these events, especially considering another stabbing incident involving an individual of Indian origin just two days prior. Jatinder Singh, aged 28, was the victim of the earlier attack near the White Rock Pier. While Singh sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the consecutive incidents have sparked concerns about safety in the area, prompting enhanced patrolling by White Rock RCMP.

In response to community concerns, local authorities have organized a town hall meeting to address safety issues. Meanwhile, Sohi's family has launched an online fundraiser to repatriate his remains to India, expressing their profound grief and shock over his untimely demise.

A poignant vigil was held at the White Rock pier on Sunday, commemorating Sohi's life and offering solace to those affected by the tragic events.
