The Canadian government is set to unveil a new financial support scheme aimed at assisting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Quebec grappling with hardships due to international tariffs. This initiative will be announced in Repentigny, Quebec, as part of the country's commitment to help businesses maintain their competitiveness in a shifting global trade landscape.
Leading the funding initiative is Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. She will be accompanied by other federal representatives, including Tim Watchorn and Madeleine Chenette, during the announcement.
The support program is projected to assist nearly 100 SMEs in Quebec that have been impacted by tariff-induced pressures, which may escalate costs, hinder exports, and induce uncertainty in international trade. The government's aim is to support these enterprises in exploring new markets and reduce dependency on limited trading partners.
Officials assert that the funding will enhance businesses' economic resilience by promoting diversification strategies. This initiative encourages expanding into new regions, boosting competitiveness, and adjusting operations to align with evolving market conditions. The objective is to allow local businesses to thrive despite external trade pressures.
At the event, government representatives will also showcase funding provided to a local business in Repentigny. Media participants are invited to tour the business site to observe firsthand how federal assistance is aiding operational growth.
This initiative is aligned with the government's overarching strategy to shield Canadian enterprises from global economic strains and guarantee long-term stability. By backing SMEs, which are pivotal in driving job creation and economic advancement, the government strives to fortify Quebec's business landscape and equip it for impending challenges.
This announcement is part of ongoing efforts by Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions to offer focused support to businesses and champion sustainable economic development throughout the province.
