The new romantic drama TV show The Royals, starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter, is not just about love and emotions—it’s also a beautiful display of fashion and style. Famous fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla made sure the cast looked royal by designing special outfits from their own collection. In fact, these two designers even appeared in the show themselves!
In the final episode of The Royals, the main actors—including Bhumi Pednekar, Ishaan Khatter, and Bollywood legend Zeenat Aman—wore special outfits from the designers’ old collection, which celebrates over 30 years of their work in fashion.

Bhumi Pednekar wore a breathtaking red lehenga (a long traditional Indian skirt and blouse). In an interview with Vogue, the designers called her outfit a “mirror-work masterpiece.” This outfit was not brand new—it was made by bringing back to life a 35-year-old design from their archive. The lehenga had over 5000 tiny mirrors stitched into it, creating a shiny and beautiful pattern. The skirt had large, uneven circles made of mirrors, giving it a rich and bold look. Her blouse had a modern touch, with a slim neckline, short cap sleeves, and a wavy edge at the bottom.
Ishaan Khatter’s outfit was also very special and stylish. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla said they experimented with his look to make it different. Ishaan looked like a royal prince in a navy blue sherwani (a long coat-like garment) that was also covered in mirror work. He wore it with a unique dhoti (a traditional Indian bottom), made of light, see-through organza fabric. This kind of modern dhoti could soon become a new trend in wedding fashion.
Zeenat Aman, the famous actress from the 1970s and known for her role in Dum Maro Dum, also appeared in The Royals. The designers shared that Zeenat hadn’t worn a red bridal outfit since she stopped acting many years ago. But for this show, she wore a beautiful, heavy red lehenga that reminded everyone of her royal charm and timeless beauty.
Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla worked very hard to create these amazing outfits. They used traditional Indian embroidery techniques such as zardozi, badla, aari, khicha, chanderi, and gota. These are all special kinds of needlework that are deeply connected to Indian culture.
This isn’t the first time these designers have created stunning clothes for movies. They also designed the grand costumes for the hit film Devdas in 2002. Those outfits were so special that they were later shown in an international museum.
With The Royals, the designer duo once again proved that fashion can be both traditional and modern—and always magical.
