In a new initiative, Bahrain has decreased the minimum investment for its Golden Residency Visa, seeking to simplify long-term residency for foreign investors. The Ministry of Interior's Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs (NPRA) announced this development, signifying Bahrain’s ambition to draw international talent and investments. This measure is part of a broader vision to establish Bahrain as a premier destination for business, residence, and investment in the Gulf. Officials predict a rise in demand for upscale properties, all while ensuring the Golden Visa program retains its exclusivity and standards.

Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary for NPRA, underscored the government's dedication to fostering a reliable and inviting atmosphere for long-term investors. “The lowered investment threshold enhances the program's appeal while maintaining its elite status,” he stated. Local reports indicate the real estate investment requirement for the Golden Visa has been slashed from BHD 200,000 (approximately US$530,555) to BHD 130,000 (around US$345,000), marking a significant 35% reduction.

The adjusted criteria broaden the eligibility spectrum significantly. Investors meeting the new BHD 130,000 threshold qualify, alongside professionals earning BHD 2,000 monthly with a minimum of five years in Bahrain. Additionally, retirees with pensions exceeding BHD 2,000 and non-resident retirees with pensions surpassing BHD 4,000 are also eligible. Entrepreneurs, skilled workers, and those contributing to the economy or society can also apply for the visa.

The Golden Residency Visa offers numerous advantages, including lifetime residency, work options, unlimited entries, family sponsorship privileges, and complete business ownership. Applicants must provide a valid passport, six months of bank statements, health insurance, and residency proof via the NPRA portal. Fees comprise BHD 5 for submission and BHD 300 upon issuance.

Experts in the industry anticipate that the new regulations will broaden Bahrain’s investor demographic while invigorating the real estate market, further solidifying the kingdom’s appeal as a top choice for residency and investment in the Gulf region. With these strategic adjustments, Bahrain aims to attract a greater influx of foreign investors, promote economic expansion, and enhance options for both professionals and families aspiring for long-term residency.
