Arsenal fans had every reason to celebrate on Sunday as their team claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace while title rivals Manchester City suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, leaving Arsenal four points clear at the top of the Premier League table. The result turned the weekend into a dream scenario for Arsenal, who are now looking stronger than ever in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
The Premier League clash saw Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze score the only goal against his former club, Crystal Palace, in the 39th minute. Eze’s moment of brilliance came when Gabriel headed Declan Rice’s free kick into his path, allowing him to deliver a calm, first-time finish past Dean Henderson. Despite his joy, Eze chose not to celebrate against his old team, earning applause from both sets of fans. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his side’s resilience, saying, “I probably value this victory more than any other this season. It shows how tough the Premier League is and how much fight this team has.”
Manchester City, meanwhile, stumbled at Villa Park in a rare defeat that exposed their weaknesses. Villa’s Matty Cash fired home in the 19th minute from Emiliano Buendia’s corner to secure a fourth consecutive win for Aston Villa. City, unbeaten in nine matches before the game, couldn’t recover as Erling Haaland’s 90th-minute strike was ruled out for offside. City captain Bernardo Silva admitted the team’s pressing was “really bad” and said their sluggish play cost them the game.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur climbed to third after a dominant 3-0 win over Everton. Defender Micky van de Ven scored twice in the first half, becoming the first Spurs defender in 12 years to net a Premier League brace. Tottenham keeper Guglielmo Vicario was superb in goal, while substitute Pape Matar Sarr sealed the win late on. “Winning 3-0 away in the Premier League is massive,” manager Thomas Frank said after the match.
Bournemouth continued their impressive run, defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 to rise to second place in the table. Marcus Tavernier scored directly from a corner, while Eli Junior Kroupi added a long-range screamer to secure the win. Bournemouth’s coach Andoni Iraola praised his players for their discipline and hunger, calling their start to the season “unbelievable.”
At the bottom of the table, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ struggles continued after a heartbreaking 3-2 home defeat to Burnley. Despite coming back from two goals down with strikes from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi, Burnley snatched the winner deep into stoppage time, leaving Wolves winless and rooted to the bottom of the league.
As things stand, Arsenal sit on 22 points from nine games, Bournemouth follow with 18, while Tottenham and Sunderland have 17 each. Manchester City’s shock defeat has left them six points adrift of the Gunners, making the title race even more intense. With Arsenal showing consistency and confidence under Arteta, the Premier League season is shaping up for a thrilling battle at the top — and Arsenal fans believe this could finally be their year.
