Amazon has unveiled a massive $35 billion investment plan in India, aiming to transform the country’s digital and business landscape through artificial intelligence, job creation, and export growth. This commitment comes shortly after Microsoft announced a $17.5 billion investment in India, signaling growing confidence in the country’s technology and innovation potential.
Since launching its Indian marketplace in 2013, Amazon has cumulatively invested $40 billion, including employee compensation and infrastructure development. The new plan will focus on three strategic pillars: AI-driven digitalisation, expanding exports, and creating employment opportunities. The initiative aligns with India’s long-term national priorities of technology adoption, manufacturing growth, and global trade.
At Amazon’s Smbhav summit for MSMEs, Amit Agarwal, Senior VP Emerging Markets, said the company aims to democratise AI access for millions, create 1 million jobs, and quadruple cumulative e-commerce exports to $80 billion by 2030. The company has already digitised over 12 million small businesses and supported nearly 2.8 million jobs across India.
To bolster exports, Amazon launched ‘Accelerate Exports’, a manufacturing-focused initiative to connect entrepreneurs with manufacturers. Key clusters like Tirupur, Kanpur, and Surat will host onboarding drives, helping local manufacturers reach global markets. Amazon also plans AI education for 4 million government school students, preparing the next generation for emerging technologies.
India is rapidly emerging as a hotspot for AI investment, with global tech majors like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon intensifying their focus on cloud and AI infrastructure. Analysts say these investments are likely to accelerate digital adoption, boost exports, and create millions of jobs, solidifying India’s position as a global technology hub.
