ADNOC has signed a long-term deal with Osaka Gas, a big energy company in Japan, to supply up to 0.8 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) every year. This deal will last for 15 years and will provide LNG from ADNOC’s Ruwais LNG project. It is the first long-term LNG deal between ADNOC and Osaka Gas, making the bond between the UAE and Japan even stronger.

The Ruwais LNG project is still being built in Al Ruwais Industrial City and will start working in 2028. So far, ADNOC has already agreed to sell 8 million tonnes of LNG from this project to buyers in Asia and Europe. The total capacity of the Ruwais LNG project is 9.6 million tonnes per year. This shows that many countries trust ADNOC to provide them with LNG for their energy needs.

Rashid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, a senior official at ADNOC, said that this deal will help ADNOC grow its LNG business and supply cleaner energy to the world. He also said that ADNOC is committed to providing gas that will power homes, industries, and businesses. The LNG from this deal will be sent to Osaka Gas in Japan and its branch in Singapore, called Osaka Gas Energy Supply and Trading Pte. Ltd. (OGEST).

Keiji Takemori, a top executive at Osaka Gas, spoke about the strong friendship between Abu Dhabi and Osaka, which started in 1970 when Abu Dhabi took part in the Expo held in Osaka. He said that since Osaka is hosting the World Expo again this year, this new deal with ADNOC is very special. He added that ADNOC has been supplying LNG to Japan for almost 50 years and that this new contract will help Osaka Gas provide a steady energy supply to its customers.

The Ruwais LNG plant will be the first LNG plant in the Middle East and Africa to run on clean power. This means it will produce less pollution compared to other LNG plants. ADNOC is using the latest technology to make sure the plant is safe, runs smoothly, and does not harm the environment.

In November 2024, ADNOC Gas announced that it will buy ADNOC’s 60% share in the Ruwais LNG project for about $5 billion. This purchase will be completed in 2028. The project will have two big LNG units, each making 4.8 million tonnes of LNG every year. Once finished, ADNOC Gas will be able to produce around 15 million tonnes of LNG per year, which is more than double its current production.

This deal is a big step for ADNOC as it continues to grow in the global LNG market. It also helps the UAE become a bigger supplier of clean energy to different parts of the world.
