ADNOC Achieves Industry-Leading Carbon Intensity at Shah Oil Field with AI

ADNOC has shared that its Shah Oil Field has reached a very low level of carbon emissions, with just 0.1 kilograms of carbon dioxide for each barrel of oil produced. This makes it one of the most eco-friendly oil fields in the world. This shows ADNOC’s commitment to producing oil and gas in a way that is better for the environment.

The Shah oil field is located 230 kilometers south of Abu Dhabi. It produces about 70,000 barrels of oil every day, enough to fuel over one million cars in the UAE. ADNOC achieved this by using smart technology and better ways of working that reduce pollution. They also use clean energy from solar and nuclear power to run the field.

Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC Upstream, said: "Technology is important for ADNOC as we try to reach zero carbon emissions. This achievement at the Shah field shows that we care about both the environment and innovation. By using smart tools like AI and data, we are making our operations better, cutting down on emissions, and ensuring that we are one of the least harmful oil producers in the world. We will keep finding new ways to improve our work and make it more eco-friendly.”

At the Shah field, ADNOC uses a system called liquid ejector technology, which helps save gas that would normally be wasted. This helps reduce energy use and carbon emissions. They also use a program called CPAD (Centralized Predictive Analytics Diagnostics), which helps prevent problems, improves safety, and makes the field run more smoothly.

In 2023, ADNOC reduced its carbon emissions in oil production to about 7 kilograms per barrel. This puts ADNOC among the best in the world for low carbon emissions. They also cut down on 6.2 million tons of CO2 emissions, with 4.8 million tons coming from using clean energy like solar and nuclear power.
