Tragic Explosion at University Cafeteria Leaves One Dead and Nine Injured

A devastating explosion rocked a university cafeteria located in Bukit Damansara today, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries.

The explosion occurred in an air-conditioner compressor room on the cafeteria's Level 4 during routine maintenance, leading to significant damage affecting roughly one-third of the floor area. Fortunately, no fires erupted in the aftermath.

Emergency services responded promptly to a distress call around 11:51 a.m., deploying multiple fire teams, including a Hazmat unit to check for possible gas leaks. Authorities later confirmed the area was safe from hazardous materials, ensuring that the situation was under control.

Among the injured are four students, two canteen staff members, an in-house technician, and two contractors. Tragically, a 24-year-old contractor, who sustained severe injuries, unfortunately passed away at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion, concentrating on the maintenance processes involved in the compressor room at the time.
