The Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi (DCD), in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), has officially launched the third round of the Sports and Physical Activity Survey. This initiative aims to evaluate the levels of physical activity within the community, assess current participation against World Health Organization (WHO) standards, and identify barriers that hinder individuals from engaging in sports or physical activities.
The survey serves as a vital tool for monitoring annual changes and trends within the sports sector. Additionally, it seeks to encourage community participation in physical activities, contributing to the establishment of a healthier society. The comprehensive data collected will play a crucial role in shaping policies, programs, and initiatives designed to enhance community health and well-being in the emirate.
His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Sports Sector at DCD, commented on the significance of the survey. He stated, “The third round of the survey represents a continuation of our efforts, alongside our partners, to analyze and monitor data around physical activity and sports in the emirate. This will help identify patterns of sports behavior adopted by community members. The survey also helps identify needs and aids coordination with relevant authorities to enhance sports facilities, improve the overall quality of life, and foster a healthier, more active community.”
The survey focuses on several key areas, including understanding participants' physical activity levels, their satisfaction with available sports facilities, their impressions of sports events, and their general aspirations and perceptions. It reflects the DCD's ongoing collaboration with partners to assess the physical activity levels across various segments of society. The insights gathered from this survey will be instrumental in guiding the development of initiatives that meet the needs and aspirations of the community.

Aligned with its role as the regulatory body for the social sector in the emirate, the Sports and Physical Activity Survey supports the DCD's mission to promote an active lifestyle for all residents. The findings will not only help in identifying areas for improvement but will also inform data-driven changes to physical activity policies and programs aimed at enhancing well-being and elevating the quality of life in society.
The survey will be open until November 7, 2024, and community members are encouraged to participate and share their experiences.
