The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has officially launched Abu Dhabi’s pioneering sea-cage aquaculture project, integrating cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance fish farming practices. The project features six floating sea cages, each designed to support a diverse range of fish species. To date, the cages have seen the release of 168,000 Safi Arabi, 122,000 Gabit, 100,000 Shaam, and 90,000 Sheri fish into their new environment. This initiative marks a significant step forward in sustainable aquaculture for the UAE.
AI technology plays a crucial role in the project, monitoring the health and quality of both the fish and their surrounding water. This real-time data allows for precise management and intervention, ensuring optimal conditions for fish growth and development.
In addition to its benefits for fish production, the project addresses broader environmental concerns. It aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems and promotes sustainable sea-based aquaculture practices. By utilizing AI to enhance efficiency and sustainability, the project represents a significant advancement in the UAE's efforts to balance economic development with environmental stewardship.
Overall, this initiative not only supports Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainable development but also sets a new standard for aquaculture projects globally.
