Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority Unveils New Data Platform
Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), a new strategic tool has been launched: the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Data Platform. This advanced digital gateway is designed to support decision-making on food security and agricultural issues throughout Abu Dhabi.

The new platform provides comprehensive and precise information on every facet of the agriculture and food sector, from production and distribution to consumption. It allows for the analysis of real-time data and the generation of reports that assist policymakers in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of food security policies and programs. The aim is to foster a sustainable, flexible, and integrated food system that meets the emirate's needs and rapidly addresses any potential threats or risks to food security and biosecurity.
His Excellency Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director General of ADAFSA, emphasized the importance of the platform in driving innovation in food security. He noted that the platform's advanced digital capabilities and reliable data access support policymakers and researchers in developing solutions that enhance the agriculture and food sector’s performance in Abu Dhabi.
"We are deeply grateful for the support of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This initiative reflects the visionary leadership that recognizes the crucial role of food security in ensuring stability and prosperity. The Abu Dhabi government is committed to leveraging all resources to provide safe and sustainable food for all residents," Al Ameri stated.
Developed in collaboration with 16 strategic partners from both the public and private sectors, the platform integrates comprehensive data management and governance practices. It aims to advance ADAFSA's goals of ensuring food safety and promoting sustainable agricultural development. The platform’s capabilities include monitoring the local, regional, and global food security situation through a detailed dashboard that features over 335 indicators. This helps in managing food emergencies, animal diseases, and agricultural pests, enabling early intervention and crisis management.
The platform collects and tracks a wide range of data, including local agricultural production (crops and livestock), trade and investment information, future production estimates, strategic food reserves, food loss and waste rates, and more. It also monitors animal and plant health, pest control programs, vaccination efforts, investment opportunities, and provides real-time updates through more than 200 dashboards.
Forecasts and predictions about production, consumption, and supply-demand dynamics are integral to the platform, ensuring accurate self-sufficiency assessments and strategic reserve adequacy. It analyzes price trends, import dependencies, and includes a warning system for local, regional, and global risks. Alerts are activated for fluctuations in food prices, production levels, and significant changes in weather or disease conditions that impact food availability and biosecurity.
The platform also supports comprehensive planning and response strategies, offering actionable insights to address potential threats and manage food security challenges effectively.
