Abu Dhabi Kingfish Championships to Feature AED 4.3M+ Prize Pool

The Abu Dhabi Kingfish Championships will happen from December 2024 to April 2025. This event gives prizes worth over AED 4.3 million. It is planned by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. The event helps protect old fishing traditions and takes care of the environment.

The event details were shared during a meeting at Marina Hall in ADNEC Centre, Abu Dhabi, during the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show. Important people like Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Salem Rashid Al Rumaithi, and Suhail Al Arifi were there.

There will be four contests with 312 prizes. The total prize money is AED 4,342,000. The Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship has groups for men and women, supported by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Al Mugheira Kingfish Championship is only for women. The Abu Dhabi Grand Kingfish Championship, open to both men and women, is supported by His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Yas Grand Kingfish Championship is also for men and women, supported by Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.

Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei said the Al Dhafra contest is open to men and women from any country. The Al Mugheira contest is special because it is only for women, giving them a chance to join this fishing tradition. He said these contests honor the UAE’s rich sea culture and invite many people to join.

Salem Rashid Al Rumaithi thanked UAE leaders for supporting events that keep traditions alive. He said the contests help protect old fishing practices for future generations. They also make Abu Dhabi a great place for fishing and sports tourism.

The championships also teach about safe fishing and protecting the environment. They promote fair play and invite fishing fans from all over the world. Rumaithi said these contests help Abu Dhabi become a famous place for kingfish fishing.

Suhail Al Arifi said these contests are important to protect the UAE’s sea culture. He said they are supported by UAE leaders, showing their value. He hopes the events will inspire young people to enjoy this tradition and help Abu Dhabi become a top spot for sports and tourism.
