The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an have given over AED 19 million in grants to support important healthcare research. This money will help work in areas like gene therapies, precision medicine, and better cancer treatments. The goal is to improve healthcare and help patients get better results from their treatments.

The announcement comes after the first Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week 2024. DoH gave money to 11 different groups, including doctors, researchers, and innovators. These groups will use the money to help improve healthcare through new projects, with the support of the DoH’s Research and Innovation Centre. These projects are focusing on big healthcare problems and improving the care people get.

The projects being funded include cancer research, using new technology, and better ways to treat long-term diseases. Some of the ideas being worked on include virtual reality programs to help people who survived breast cancer, treatments for children with metabolic problems, and new ways to help people with inherited eye diseases. These projects show how medical research can help solve big problems in healthcare.

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of Health Life Sciences at DoH, said that funding research is important for making new ideas into solutions that can change lives. She said, "These grants will help create solutions, improve patient care, and make Abu Dhabi a leader in healthcare around the world." She added that by investing in research, Abu Dhabi is building a healthcare system that can meet the needs of the people and improve healthcare everywhere.

His Excellency Faisal Alhmoudi, Executive Director of the Social Investment Fund at Ma’an, also shared his excitement about how the grants will help the healthcare system. He said that healthcare is a priority for Ma’an and these grants will help improve healthcare for everyone in Abu Dhabi. Ma’an is working to create strong partnerships between different groups to improve life for everyone in the city.

The grants were given at the DoH Research and Innovation Summit. This event brought together over 200 researchers, doctors, investors, and government leaders. The goal was to encourage people to work together and create a better environment for healthcare innovation. The summit included people from around the world, including entrepreneurs and scientists. The discussions focused on the challenges of doing research and trials in the UAE, and how to grow healthcare and research in the region. The event helped people from different areas come together to work on solving healthcare problems.
