English golfer Aaron Rai clinched the title at the 20th Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship 2025, held at Yas Links on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan crowned Rai as champion in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd. Rai finished at 26 under par after a playoff against compatriot Tommy Fleetwood, who ended at 25 under par. This marked Rai’s first Abu Dhabi title and his second Rolex Series trophy.
The tournament featured 72 top-ranked players as part of the Rolex Series and DP World Tour Finals. Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, the current leader of the Race to Dubai, finished tied at 24 under par. The final day created an electric atmosphere, especially on the 18th hole, where Rai sealed the thrilling victory.
The championship was organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and DP World. The awards ceremony included Major General (Ret.) Abdullah Al Hashemi, Abdulfattah Sharaf from HSBC Middle East, Erik Nicolai from the European Tour Group, and DP World CEO Guy Kinnings. The event showcased Abu Dhabi’s ability to host world-class sporting events with excellent infrastructure, security, and crowd engagement.
H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan praised the success of the 20th edition, stating it solidifies Abu Dhabi’s status as a global sports destination. He emphasized the leadership’s support in promoting sports, tourism, and values of tolerance and engagement. The championship has consistently contributed to the growth of Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector by attracting international visitors.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, congratulated Aaron Rai and highlighted the excellent organisation of the championship. He praised sponsors, partners, and volunteers for their efforts and acknowledged the large turnout of fans and global viewers. The council aims to encourage golf culture and attract younger generations to the sport in the UAE and the region.
The total prize fund reached approximately USD 9 million, with the winner earning USD 1.52 million and 1,500 points, the runner-up USD 980,000 and 1,000 points, and third place USD 560,000 and 565 points.
