A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata made a safe emergency landing late Sunday night after experiencing a technical snag in one of its engines, airport officials confirmed. Flight SG670, carrying over 170 passengers, touched down at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 11:38 pm after the pilot declared a full emergency.

Authorities reported that all passengers and crew were unharmed, and the emergency status was lifted shortly after landing. Emergency response teams were on standby during the landing to ensure passenger safety.

The pilot detected abnormal engine behavior just before beginning the aircraft’s descent and promptly informed air traffic control. SpiceJet has stated that an internal investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the engine malfunction.

Kolkata Airport officials confirmed: “The flight landed safely, and the full emergency has been withdrawn at 11:38 pm.”

This incident comes shortly after disruptions in flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which affected at least 100 flights due to an Air Traffic Control (ATC) system malfunction. SpiceJet had previously issued advisories to passengers regarding possible delays, noting, “Due to ATC congestion at Delhi, all Departures/Arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via spicejet.com.”

SpiceJet has faced in-flight technical issues before. On September 12, a Q400 aircraft from Kandla to Mumbai made an emergency landing after an outer wheel detached on the runway post-takeoff. The flight landed safely, and all passengers disembarked without incident.

SpiceJet emphasizes that all emergency landings are carried out following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to prioritize passenger safety.

Passengers on Flight SG670 were reported to be safe, and normal operations resumed following the emergency.
