In 2023, Abu Dhabi's airports witnessed a significant influx of travelers, totaling approximately 22.4 million passengers, according to the latest Key Transport Statistics 2023 report released by the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD). The report detailed that arrivals through the emirate's airports reached over 11.1 million, while departures numbered 11.3 million.
Among the top regions for arrivals, the Indian subcontinent led with about 3.2 million travelers, followed by Western Europe at 1.9 million, Asia with 1.7 million, GCC countries with approximately 1.6 million, and East Asia with 822,777 travelers by the end of 2023. Departures from Abu Dhabi's airports were dominated by the Indian subcontinent with around 3.5 million travelers, followed by South America (1.9 million), Asia (1.7 million), and GCC countries (1.6 million).
Specifically, Al Ain International Airport recorded 51,067 arrivals and 43,945 departures in 2023, with 1,763 transit passengers. Meanwhile, Zayed International Airport saw 1,011 transit passengers.

The report clarified that data from Al Bateen Executive Airport was included, highlighting significant growth in aircraft traffic across Abu Dhabi's airports. Zayed International Airport reported a 27.8% increase in aircraft movements, with 141,225 flights in 2023 compared to 110,536 in the previous year. Al Ain International Airport also experienced growth, handling 8,409 flights in 2023 compared to 7,598 in 2022.
In terms of cargo traffic, Abu Dhabi imported 319,993 tonnes of goods in 2023, with Asia accounting for 138,187 tonnes, while exports totaled 238,644 tonnes, led by Western Europe with 98,089 tonnes. Al Ain International Airport handled 1,263 tonnes of exports and 501 tonnes of imports during the year.
These statistics underscore Abu Dhabi's role as a pivotal hub in global air travel and trade, reflecting continued growth and strategic importance in the region's aviation sector.
