Actor Yami Gautam is celebrating the strong box office performance of her latest film, Haq, which released in theatres on Friday. The film, co-starring Emraan Hashmi, opened to a decent start and showed a remarkable 100% growth on its second day, signaling positive word-of-mouth and audience appreciation.
Yami reacts to Haq’s organic growth
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Yami Gautam expressed her gratitude for the film’s reception. She reposted a user’s tweet highlighting the movie’s box office performance, which read:
“Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi-starrer shows a MASSIVE 100% growth on Day 2 and is set to soar even higher on Sunday! GOOD FILMS always find their audience — and #HAQ is proving it loud and clear! The positive word of mouth is doing wonders now!”
Reposting it, Yami wrote,
“The power of ‘Word of mouth’. No foul play or any gimmicks. Straight from our hearts to the audience. Even from a trade & media perspective, I feel a lot of positivity that they want a film like Haq to be a success. It’s a rarity & I shall cherish this moment for life.”
A heartfelt connection with the audience
The actor’s post comes shortly after a viral video showed an emotional Muslim woman kissing Yami’s hand after watching Haq. The woman thanked her for portraying a story that gave her “strength to fight,” a gesture that moved fans and reinforced the film’s emotional impact.
About the film
Directed by Suparn Varma, Haq features Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in the lead, with Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Husain, Aseem Hattangady, and Vartika Singh in pivotal roles.
The film has collected approximately ₹7.92 crore by Saturday evening, according to early trade reports. Its weekend performance is being hailed as a sign of strong audience connection and authenticity, particularly in an era dominated by big-budget commercial releases.
Inspired by a landmark case
Haq draws inspiration from the real-life story of Shah Bano Begum, a Muslim woman whose legal battle in 1985 led to a landmark Supreme Court judgment granting divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance. The film dramatizes her fight for justice and the broader implications of her case in Indian society.
Earlier, Shah Bano Begum’s daughter had filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking a stay on the film’s release, but the court dismissed it, allowing the movie to reach theatres as planned.
A career milestone for Yami
Known for her powerful performances in Article 370, A Thursday, and Lost, Yami Gautam’s portrayal in Haq is being widely praised as one of her most intense and grounded roles to date. Critics and audiences alike have lauded her nuanced depiction of courage, resilience, and moral conviction.
Yami, who has often spoken about choosing content-driven cinema over glamour, seems to have once again struck the right chord with Haq. Her reflection on the film’s organic success highlights her commitment to authentic storytelling and her deep appreciation for audience trust.
