Bollywood actor Yami Gautam, known for her critically acclaimed performances in films such as Article 370, A Thursday, and Bala, has revealed that not winning any major Best Actress awards no longer bothers her. Despite receiving multiple nominations at prestigious award ceremonies like the Filmfare Awards and IIFA, Yami has yet to secure a win in the top category.
Reflecting on her personal and professional evolution, the actor shared that she has now learned to detach herself from external validation. "As much as I have understood the Bhagwat Geeta, what Lord Krishna says to Arjun is true,” she said. “If you can detach from success, fear of losing, or validation from others, you are fine. I’ve stopped seeking any kind of validation from anyone.”
Yami, who made her Bollywood debut with the successful 2013 film Vicky Donor, has since built a strong filmography with roles that challenge the mainstream narrative. Over the years, she has often focused on performance-driven roles instead of conventional glamour.
Her biggest recognition, she says, now comes from her audience and filmmakers who trust her craft. “The fact that my audience loves me, and that certain directors and producers are willing to take a chance on me — there’s no bigger award than that,” she added.
Up next, Yami will be seen in Haq, a legal drama inspired by the landmark Shah Bano case. The film, co-starring Emraan Hashmi, explores the struggles of a Muslim woman seeking justice and maintenance after divorce. Scheduled for release on November 7, the movie is already generating buzz for its socially relevant theme and strong performances.
