In the Women's Premier League match on Sunday, Mumbai Indians secured a five-wicket victory against Gujarat Giants, thanks to a crucial half-century partnership between skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr. Chasing a target of 127, Harmanpreet (46*) and Amelia (31) built a resilient 66-run stand after losing three early wickets. Harmanpreet sealed the win with a massive six in the 18.1 overs.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians' bowlers impressed, with Shabnim Ismail (3/18) and Amelia Kerr (4/17) leading the way to restrict Gujarat Giants to a subpar 126/9. Ismail, in her Power Play stint, dismissed Veda Krishnamurthy and Harleen Deol, showcasing her prowess. Pacer Nat Sciver-Brunt added to the pressure by removing Phoebe Litchfield in the sixth over.
Giants struggled to find boundaries for 44 balls, compounding their woes with regular wicket losses. The final scorecard read: Gujarat Giants 126/9 in 20 overs, Mumbai Indians 129/5 in 18.1 overs (Nat Sciver-Brunt 22, Harmanpreet Kaur 46*, Amelia Kerr 31). Mumbai Indians secured the victory by 5 wickets.
