U.S. military ships are currently engaged in constructing a pier off the coast of Gaza to facilitate the delivery of aid to the region. The endeavor, spearheaded by the American Navy and Army, is part of an effort to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and is estimated to cost at least $320 million.
The primary objective of the project is to establish a floating platform that will serve as a hub for aid delivery operations to Gaza. This platform, known as the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore (JLOTS) system, is being built with the assistance of vessels such as the USNS Roy P. Benavidez and several Army logistics vessels, including the USAV General Frank S. Besson Jr.

Satellite images from recent days depict the progress of construction, with pieces of the floating pier visible in the Mediterranean Sea alongside the USNS Roy P. Benavidez. The project involves transporting equipment and pier sections from the United States to the coast of Gaza and constructing the floating platform to support aid delivery operations.
According to Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, the estimated cost of $320 million covers various aspects of the project, including transportation, construction, and aid delivery operations. The aid delivery process will involve loading aid onto commercial ships in Cyprus, which will then transfer the supplies to trucks on the floating pier off Gaza's coast.
The initiative is a joint effort between the U.S. and Israeli military, with the goal of providing critical humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. It is hoped that the floating pier and aid delivery operations will be operational by early May, pending completion of construction and logistical arrangements.
Despite logistical challenges and concerns about potential resistance from Hamas, the focus remains on delivering essential supplies to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza. The project underscores the commitment of the international community, including the United States and Israel, to address the urgent humanitarian needs of Gaza amid ongoing challenges and conflict in the region.
