The UAE has become number one in the Arab world in the TIMSS 2023 International Report. This report checks how well students in grade four and grade eight are learning science and mathematics. Over 64 countries around the world joined this study. The study happens every four years.
The results of TIMSS 2023 were shared on December 4 at the Museum of the Future in Dubai. This event was planned by the UAE Ministry of Education with help from IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement) and Boston College’s TIMSS and PIRLS Study Centre. People could also watch the event live online to learn about the new results.
The event began with a speech by Dr. Thierry Rocher, who welcomed everyone and set a good mood. Then, Professor Matthias von Davier shared the main points of the report. After that, Dr. Dirk Hastedt explained how the results can help schools and governments make better plans for students.

Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, the UAE Minister of Education, congratulated the students for doing so well in the TIMSS study. She said these results show that the Ministry of Education is working hard to improve schools in the UAE. She also explained that studies like TIMSS are important because they show how education systems are growing. They also help countries know what changes to make to improve education.
The TIMSS 2023 results showed that UAE students did much better than in the last study in 2019. For grade four, students scored 17 points higher in mathematics and 22 points higher in science. For grade eight, students also did better, with a 15-point increase in mathematics and a 14-point increase in science. This is a big improvement and shows that education in the UAE is getting better.
The report also shared results from all the countries. It showed that many students in grades four and eight around the world reached the basic levels in mathematics and science. However, the study also found some differences. For example, in grade four mathematics, the gap between boys’ and girls’ scores is now bigger than it was in 2019. The report also found that students who have good learning resources at home tend to perform better in school.
TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) are tests that check how well students are learning mathematics, science, and reading. These tests are done by the IEA, which is a group of experts who work together to make education better around the world.
The UAE’s great results in TIMSS 2023 are a proud moment for the country. This success shows how much effort is being put into giving students a strong education. These results will encourage more hard work to make UAE’s schools even better in the future.
