UAE Urges Permanent Sudan Ceasefire at Quad Meet

The UAE’s Minister of State, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, has called for a permanent ceasefire and an unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan during a high-level Quad meeting held in New York.

The meeting brought together representatives from the United States, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, along with participation from the European Union and the United Kingdom. The Quad initiative, led by the United States, serves as a comprehensive platform aimed at ending the ongoing civil war in Sudan.

During the discussions, Sheikh Shakhboot stressed the urgent need to stop the violence and ensure full and unimpeded humanitarian access across Sudan. He highlighted that aid must reach all affected areas without obstacles to help address the worsening humanitarian crisis.

The UAE minister also underlined the importance of supporting a political transition that leads to the formation of a civilian government. He said that such a government must remain independent of the warring factions and extremist groups to ensure long-term stability.

Sheikh Shakhboot praised the leadership of US President Donald Trump for efforts aimed at preventing Sudan from descending further into extremism, fragmentation and deeper humanitarian suffering.

He welcomed the involvement of the European Union and the United Kingdom in the Quad discussions, emphasizing that coordinated regional and international cooperation is essential to resolving the Sudan crisis.

The Quad framework continues to focus on diplomatic engagement, humanitarian support and political dialogue as key steps toward ending the conflict and restoring peace in Sudan.
