Sheikh Hazza Visits Qasr Al Muwaiji to Preserve UAE Heritage

His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, visited Qasr Al Muwaiji to support the preservation of the UAE’s historical and cultural heritage.

During the visit, Sheikh Hazza reviewed key exhibits at the Qasr, which document its role in the development of Al Ain Region and its importance as a prominent architectural and cultural landmark.

He emphasized the need to preserve and restore historical sites to the highest standards, showcasing Al Ain’s cultural legacy, promoting tourism, and teaching national history to younger generations.

Accompanying Sheikh Hazza were Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Rashed Musabbeh Al Manei, Director-General of Al Ain City Municipality, and other officials.

Built in the early 20th century, Qasr Al Muwaiji is an excellent example of traditional mud-brick architecture. It served as both a seat of governance and a gathering place for local leaders. It was also the residence of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan when he became Ruler’s Representative of Al Ain in 1946.

The Qasr reflects the social and administrative patterns of the region, showing the connection between the community, traditions, and environment. It also highlights the role of oases and majlis in fostering community cohesion.

Qasr Al Muwaiji features a square layout covering 3,600 square metres, surrounded by a 5-metre high defensive wall. It has three main towers, some used as residential spaces, along with a governance court. A mosque outside the Qasr mirrors its architectural style, maintaining the historic character of the site.

Qasr Al Muwaiji remains a living testament to Al Ain’s history, culture, and architectural ingenuity, preserving the UAE’s rich heritage for future generations.
