UAE Unveils Zayed National Museum on 54th National Day Celebrations

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, announced that the Zayed National Museum will officially launch in December 2025, coinciding with the UAE's 54th National Day. He declared this opening as a landmark event for the Saadiyat Cultural District, stating that the museum will embody the essence of the nation’s narrative. It aims to present an authentic view of the UAE’s identity, historical context, and future aspirations while paying tribute to the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

According to Al Mubarak, the cultural framework for Abu Dhabi has always been anchored in two fundamental beliefs: that culture acts as a bridge uniting societies and that a nation gains strength by safeguarding its heritage while looking towards the future. The Zayed National Museum is set to reflect these ideals. Positioned alongside other prominent institutions on Saadiyat Island, it will contribute to a collective of cultural treasures that signify the UAE’s dedication to innovation and intellectual growth, all while maintaining a distinct identity tied to the country’s rich narrative and values.

Inside, visitors will engage with both intimate and wide-reaching stories, tracing back 300,000 years of history to the modern milestones of the UAE. Highlights include the Abu Dhabi Pearl, one of the oldest natural pearls on record, and the reconstructed Magan boat, a representation of ancient cultural connections. These artifacts will be showcased alongside dynamic multimedia presentations and rare archival materials that animate the UAE’s history for future visitors.

Al Mubarak emphasized that the museum will illuminate Sheikh Zayed’s lifestyle, beliefs, and leadership virtues—including his commitment to nature, unity, and education, as well as his openness to global dialogues. The museum aspires to go beyond mere preservation of history, aiming to foster education, communication, and international collaboration. It will feature exhibitions linking the UAE with the global community on themes such as archaeology, sustainability, and artistic expression through a national heritage perspective.

He commended the architectural design by Foster + Partners, characterized by five towers reminiscent of a falcon's wings. The building will incorporate sustainable cooling technologies reflecting traditional Emirati ingenuity, honoring Sheikh Zayed’s vision for environmental conservation.
