UAE Issues Red and Yellow Fog Alerts in Abu Dhabi as Temperatures Soar

The UAE’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has flagged potentially dangerous fog conditions in parts of Abu Dhabi and the Al Dhafra region. Red and yellow alerts are currently in effect for select areas—including Habshan, Zayed City, Al Hamra, and Arjan—with visibilities expected to remain low until around 9 a.m. local time. These advisories are meant to support motorist safety and reduce the risk of road accidents.

Abu Dhabi Police have echoed this warning, advising drivers to obey variable speed limits displayed on electronic road signs and to avoid sudden maneuvers that could lead to accidents in dense fog. Visibility can deteriorate rapidly—sometimes dropping to near-zero—especially along highways in fog-prone, inland zones.

Today’s morning fog layers are being triggered by overnight humidity combined with lighter winds, creating a stable air layer ideal for condensation. These conditions are typical in the region this time of year, especially near coastal and desert areas.

Following the early chill and moisture, temperatures are forecast to shoot up—reaching highs of between 40 °C and 45 °C in some interior locations. Coastal cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi will experience daytime peaks ranging from 38 °C to 42 °C. Mountainous areas will stay relatively cooler, between 30 °C and 35 °C. Daytime humidity in internal regions is high (60–80%), increasing the risk of heat-related stress and dusty conditions.

Winds are expected to stay light to moderate, with speeds between 10–20 km/h, occasionally gusting to 30–35 km/h over inland deserts and coastal zones. These gusts may stir up dust and sand, further impairing visibility and air quality, especially once fog dissipates.

Safety Guidelines:

  • Morning commute caution: Leave extra time for travel during fog hours; turn on headlights and fog lamps, drive at reduced speed.

  • Heat advisory: Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak hours (12–4 pm), and check on vulnerable individuals.

  • Dust alert: Use masks or protective eyewear if dust becomes noticeable after fog lifts.

This weather pattern reflects the UAE’s transitional season, where humidity and cooling overnight conditions meet intense daytime heat—contributing to fog and dusty wake-ups. Similar alerts have been issued throughout the year, particularly during monsoon transitions and summer season onset.

Overall, residents should expect a volatile 24 hours—hazardous conditions in the morning due to fog, followed by intensifying heat and dusty winds later in the day. Authorities recommend keeping tuned to NCM bulletins and obeying real-time traffic signals.
