Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has articulated a strong sense of optimism regarding the nation’s economic stability, asserting that Malaysia remains well-positioned despite the ongoing crises in the Middle East. Deputy Governor Marzunisham Omar emphasized that multinational corporations are steadfast in their investments in Malaysia, particularly in burgeoning sectors like data centres.
During an economic forum in Kuala Lumpur, Marzunisham underscored that foreign investments, paired with strong exports in electronics and semiconductors, are pivotal in bolstering the economy. He further noted the significant roles of tourism and domestic consumption in maintaining economic growth, despite external uncertainties.
BNM forecasts that Malaysia’s GDP growth will remain between 4% and 5% by 2026, propelled by healthy consumer spending, wage increases, and ongoing investment activities. The central bank also anticipates that inflation will remain moderate, although it cautioned that prolonged geopolitical strife could disrupt energy supplies and escalate prices further.
While policymakers express concerns regarding potential economic risks, Malaysia is currently navigating global challenges from a position of strength. Authorities continue to observe the situation closely and have established contingency plans to tackle any potential rise in global energy prices or disruptions in the supply chain.
