Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates, met with João Manuel Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, during an official visit to the Angolan capital, Luanda. The visit highlighted the commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation and expand relations across several fields of mutual interest. The meeting showed the importance the UAE places on strengthening its ties with African nations, especially with Angola, which is a key partner in the region.
During the meeting, Sheikh Shakhboot conveyed warm greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He also conveyed greetings from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The UAE leaders sent their sincere wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the government and people of Angola.
In return, President Lourenço sent his greetings to the UAE leadership and expressed his appreciation for the strong relationship between the two nations. He wished the UAE further development, stability, and growth. This mutual exchange of greetings highlighted the friendly relations and respect shared between the two countries.
President Lourenço welcomed Sheikh Shakhboot and expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s continued efforts to engage with Angola. The two sides held productive discussions on ways to strengthen bilateral relations across areas such as investment, trade, energy, development cooperation, and cultural exchange. They agreed that both countries have many opportunities to expand their partnership in a way that brings benefits to their people.
Sheikh Shakhboot highlighted the UAE’s keenness to work closely with Angola, especially in areas that support economic diversification and sustainable development. He noted that the UAE believes strongly in building balanced and mutually beneficial relationships with African nations, and Angola is an important part of this effort.
In addition to discussing bilateral cooperation, the two sides also talked about important regional developments affecting Africa. One of the key topics was the ongoing situation in Sudan. Sheikh Shakhboot praised Angola’s active and influential role in promoting peace and stability across Africa during its presidency of the African Union. He noted that Angola has played a central role in encouraging dialogue and supporting diplomatic solutions for conflicts across the continent.
Both sides stressed the importance of working together to promote peace, security, and development in Africa and beyond. They agreed that peaceful solutions, humanitarian support, and regional cooperation are essential to overcoming current challenges.
Sheikh Shakhboot and President Lourenço also discussed the urgent need to protect civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict zones. Both sides firmly condemned all violations against civilians, humanitarian personnel, and essential services. They stressed that such violations must end immediately.
They called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and other affected areas, as well as the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. They also emphasised the need for accountability and justice for crimes committed against civilians. The UAE and Angola reaffirmed their shared belief that sustainable peace can only be achieved when human rights are respected and humanitarian needs are met.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to continue strengthening the UAE-Angola partnership. Both sides agreed to maintain close communication and explore new areas of cooperation in the months ahead. The visit reflected the UAE’s long-term vision of building strong, collaborative relationships with African nations and supporting peace, security, and prosperity across the continent.
