Fans have been reacting strongly to the trailer of Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film Dhurandhar, a spy action thriller that promises high-octane action and intense violence. The trailer, released recently, has drawn attention for its visceral and gory content, depicting scenes of torture, blood, and brutality that do not shy away from showing the darker side of espionage and crime. While many fans have praised the trailer’s intensity and gripping presentation, not everyone is impressed.
Content creator and political commentator Dhruv Rathee has publicly criticised the trailer, calling out director Aditya Dhar for what he describes as extreme and unnecessary violence. Rathee took to Twitter (now X) shortly after the trailer’s release, stating, “Aditya Dhar has truly crossed a limit of cheapness in Bollywood. The extreme violence, gore and torture shown in his latest film trailer is the equivalent of watching ISIS beheadings and calling it ‘entertainment’.”
He further added, “His lust for money is so unhinged that he is willingly poisoning the minds of the young generation, desensitizing them to gore and glorifying unimaginable torture.” Rathee urged the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) to review the content, commenting, “This is the chance for Censor Board to show if they have a bigger problem with people kissing or watching someone get skinned alive.”
Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh in the lead role as an Indian spy operating in Pakistan. The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan in pivotal roles. The trailer includes several shocking sequences that have sparked conversations online. Notably, one scene shows Arjun Rampal, playing an ISI Major, skinning a person alive, while another depicts Akshaye Khanna, portraying a Lahore gangster, brutally beating a man to death with a stone.
Despite the criticism from Rathee, many fans appear unfazed by the extreme violence. Social media reactions have highlighted the film’s dark atmosphere, action sequences, and background score. One fan wrote, “The energy, the darkness, the atmosphere… it feels like Shashwat just opened a new chapter in Indian music.” Another fan urged the CBFC to allow audiences to watch the film without cuts, tweeting, “Jaisa trailer me dikh raha hai ekdum waisa he theatre me bhi dikhna chahiye. NO CUTS NO BLURS.”
The trailer launch of Dhurandhar took place at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai in the presence of director Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh, and other cast members. The film also features Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in significant roles. With a December 5 release date set for theatres, Dhurandhar is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about action films of the year, sparking debates on cinematic violence, censorship, and audience sensibilities.
