Actor Tulasi, a former child actor and popular face in Telugu and Tamil cinema, has announced her retirement from films via Instagram. She shared several posts signaling her decision to step away from the industry, marking the end of a remarkable 58-year career that began when she was just three months old.
Tulasi posted a picture of Sai Baba’s feet with a caption: “Gaurd and guide me and my son Sai!! oh deva oh Sainadha.” She also shared a quote: “Trust your intuition. You don’t need to explain or justify your feelings to anyone, just trust your own inner guidance, it knows best.” In a later post, she confirmed her retirement: “Happy retirement! Here’s to enjoying every minute of your newfound freedom and adventures.” Explaining her decision, she wrote, “In continuation of my shirdi darshan this December 31, I wish myself a happy retirement. I will continue my journey in peace with SAINADHA. Thanking all for helping me learn life SAIRAM.”
Born on June 20, 1967, Tulasi debuted in Telugu cinema at just three months old when her mother’s friend Savitri requested she be placed in a cradle for a song in the film Bharya. As a child actor, she gained fame for films such as Seetamalakshmi (1978), Sankarabharanam (1979), and Mudda Mandaram (1981).
After marrying Kannada director Sivamani at 28, Tulasi briefly quit films and worked occasionally as a voice actor, including for Mani Ratnam’s films. She returned in 2003 with the Kannada film Excuse Me as a mother, a role that became her signature. She went on to appear in notable films like Mr Perfect, Iddarammayilatho, and Dear Comrade, as well as in shows such as Oka Chinna Family Story.
