U.S. President Donald Trump is introducing new Cadillac SUVs for his travels, part of an ongoing enhancement in the security measures employed by American agencies.
At the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump was spotted in the newly delivered Cadillac SUVs, confirmed by the U.S. Secret Service as part of its protective fleet. While specific technical details remain undisclosed, these vehicles are heavily modified Cadillac Escalades optimized for high-security operations.
Secret Service Director Sean Curran expressed satisfaction with the agency's collaboration with General Motors, highlighting that the new SUVs are integral to the continuous improvement of the president’s protective systems while ensuring reliability and safety.
Armored SUVs are typically utilized for short-distance travel outside the White House. In prior instances, Trump had been transported in armored Chevrolet Suburbans unless the renowned presidential limousine, “The Beast,” was necessary.
The decision to utilize Cadillac SUVs follows discussions Trump had with General Motors executives. In March, he met with GM Chief Executive Mary Barra, proposing the inclusion of Cadillac vehicles in the presidential motorcade, prompting Secret Service representatives to inspect future armored vehicle models at a Michigan facility shortly afterward.
Concurrent to these upgrades, work also advances on a new presidential limousine. In 2024, a significant contract was awarded to General Motors by the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service to develop a new version of “The Beast,” projected to exceed $40 million by 2029, aiming to deliver enhanced protection and modern technology.
Trump's aerial travel is similarly evolving. During his trip to Davos, he experienced a brief aircraft switch from a Boeing 747 to a smaller Boeing 757 due to a minor electrical issue. The U.S. Air Force has confirmed that efforts are underway to present Trump with a new aircraft by the summer of 2026.
In the interim, Trump is utilizing a luxury Boeing 747 that previously belonged to the Qatari government. This 13-year-old aircraft features a premium interior and is undergoing modifications to comply with stringent U.S. security requirements, with retrofitting costs expected to reach in the hundreds of millions.
The longstanding delay in replacing the current Air Force One fleet has been marked by numerous setbacks, with Boeing's delivery of two new Air Force One planes now postponed to at least mid-2028, leading to discontent within both the Air Force and the White House.
In spite of these delays, officials emphasize their commitment to ensuring the president’s safety and comfort in both transport modes. The introduction of new Cadillac SUVs and advancements in aircraft upgrades underline the ongoing efforts to modernize the presidential transportation framework for future demands.
