Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for a high-profile visit to the United States from September 21 to September 23. During this visit, he will attend the Quad Summit and hold several bilateral and courtesy meetings. Modi is also expected to engage with top CEOs and business leaders and address the Indian diaspora at an event.
Ahead of this visit, former US President Donald Trump, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, claimed he would be meeting Prime Minister Modi during his stay in the US. Trump, who is actively campaigning ahead of the US elections on November 5, described Modi as "a fantastic man" during a campaign event in Michigan.

However, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed any such meeting as part of the Prime Minister's official itinerary. When questioned about the possibility of a meeting between Modi and Trump, a spokesperson for the ministry stated, "Many meetings are being fixed, and the process is ongoing. At this moment, we can't confirm any specific meet. We are looking at it from various angles. If and when meetings are fixed and confirmed with any leader, we will update you all."
In his remarks, Trump expressed admiration for Modi and the Indian people, noting their skills and accomplishments. He also criticized India's trade policies, stating, "India imposes heavy tariffs on imports. They are a very big abuser of tariffs. They're not a little bit backwards... You know the expression, they're at the top of their game, and they use it against us."
As the US election approaches, Trump's campaign faces a challenge from the current Vice President, Kamala Harris, who is seeking her first term as President. Recent polls suggest that Harris, who has Indian heritage, is leading Trump. A new poll shows Harris with a 51% to 45% lead over Trump in Pennsylvania and a 50% to 45% lead in Michigan, crucial swing states in the presidential race.
With the election drawing nearer, Trump and Harris are intensifying their campaigns in key battleground states, with Harris currently holding a significant edge in recent polls.
