Thailand’s monsoon floods have claimed seven lives, authorities confirmed Saturday, as relief efforts continue across several affected provinces. Over 260,000 people along the Chao Phraya River have been impacted this week, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
The disaster agency initially reported four deaths on Tuesday, but the figure has now been revised to seven.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Ayutthaya province, the hardest-hit area, on Saturday. Flanked by disaster agency officials, he oversaw the distribution of survival kits, placement of sandbags, and monitoring of landslide-prone zones. “We have a whole team to help relieve the people's hardship and we plan to respond to your needs,” he told residents.

Thailand was spared from Severe Tropical Storm Bualoi, which hit the Philippines earlier this week, but the Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rain in the coming days.
Monsoon season in Thailand, running from June to September, regularly brings heavy rainfall. Experts, however, say climate change is intensifying extreme weather events, making floods and landslides increasingly unpredictable. Last month, northern Thailand saw five deaths and 15 injuries from Typhoon Kajiki-related flooding and landslides. In 2011, widespread floods killed over 500 people and caused extensive damage nationwide.
Authorities continue to provide aid and monitor vulnerable areas, urging residents to stay alert as rainfall persists.
Relief teams remain active across central Thailand, prioritizing flood-hit communities along the Chao Phraya River.
