Manila's 1-Billion-Peso Roma Point Bridge Emerges as Calabarzon's Longest Over-Water Link, Connecting Mainland Luzon to Alabat Island. The Project Facilitates Access to Prime Pacific-Facing Properties and a Future 55MW Wind Farm, Boosting Economic Growth in the Region.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) initiated the construction in 2018, overcoming pandemic-related setbacks. The bridge addresses the island's transportation challenges, ensuring a more reliable link than the current boat trips often disrupted by weather.
Alabat Island, a hidden gem known for pristine waters and local treasures, is set for tourism development. The bridge's completion promises to expedite travel, fostering economic and healthcare access improvements for the island's 43,000 residents.
The chosen project site, based on a feasibility study, prioritizes the shortest and safest route. Alabat Island, slated for tourism growth, anticipates a surge in visitors post-bridge completion.
Beyond connecting the island, the bridge supports the upcoming Alabat Island Wind Farm, a 55MW project by Alternergy Philippines Holding. Construction is set to begin this year, with commercial operations expected by 2025, contributing to the Philippines' renewable energy goals.
