Tap Payments started in 2014 and has grown fast in the Middle East and North Africa. The company now works with over 100,000 businesses in countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and the UAE. The company’s goal is to make paying online easier and help more people and small businesses use digital money safely.
Getting the UAE license is a big step in Tap Payments' plan to bring all payment services together across the region. This is happening at a good time because the online shopping market in the UAE is growing very fast. By the year 2025, it is expected to reach $17 billion. Many more people are buying things online, so there is a strong need for safe and fast ways to pay — and that’s where Tap comes in.
Tap Payments is not new to getting approval from big banks. In March 2024, it got a license from the Central Bank of Kuwait to offer online payment services. This followed new rules made by the bank in May 2023. The company showed it can follow the rules and offer smart, helpful services.
Then, in May 2024, Tap Payments also got a license from the Central Bank of Qatar. This matches Qatar’s plan to grow its digital economy by 2030. Now, Tap Payments can offer all of its services to people and businesses in Qatar too.
With these new steps, Tap Payments is becoming a strong part of the growing digital money system in the region. It helps make payments easier, safer, and better for everyone.
