In an extraordinary display of dedication and admiration, 24-year-old Chinese superfan Gong embarked on an epic seven-month cycling journey to fulfill his dream of meeting global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo. Starting from his home in China on March 18, Gong pedaled across vast stretches of land, covering around 13,000 kilometers to finally arrive at the Al Nassr Football Club in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 20. His mission was inspired by Ronaldo’s planned visit to China in February, which had to be canceled due to the footballer’s leg injury. Determined to see his hero, Gong set out on a journey few could imagine, driven by his unwavering admiration for the Portuguese star.

During his incredible expedition, Gong cycled through a variety of terrains and climates, passing through countries like Kazakhstan, Georgia, Iran, and Qatar. Each nation presented its own set of challenges, from grueling weather conditions to language barriers and the constant need for budget-friendly resources. Despite these obstacles, Gong persisted, carrying essential items such as two powerful 60,000mAh power banks, a tent, cooking supplies, clothing, and basic necessities. His limited budget often forced him to rely on simple meals, mainly bread, as he ventured through areas where food costs were high. To communicate with locals in various countries, he used translation software, bridging gaps in language and culture to navigate his way safely through foreign lands.
Gong's journey was not without its share of hardships. In August, while in Armenia, he suffered a significant setback when he fell severely ill with a high fever, collapsing by the roadside. Fortunately, he received free hospital care, allowing him to recover and continue his voyage. This episode was one of many tests of his resilience, underscoring the mental and physical toll of cycling such an immense distance.
Upon learning about Gong’s remarkable journey, Ronaldo and the Al Nassr Football Club arranged a personal meeting for the young fan. Outside the club’s premises in Riyadh, the legendary footballer met Gong, acknowledging his extraordinary commitment. Ronaldo signed Gong’s shirt and posed for several photographs with him, creating a memory that Gong will cherish for a lifetime.
This remarkable encounter between Cristiano Ronaldo and his devoted fan highlights the profound impact the footballer has had on fans worldwide. Gong’s story is a testament to the lengths fans will go to connect with their idols, with his journey underscoring not only his personal tenacity but also the universal power of sports to inspire and unite.
