Jammu and Kashmir experienced powerful winds over the past 24 hours, causing major disruptions in air travel and damage across the region. Several flights at Srinagar Airport were either canceled, delayed, or diverted due to the rough weather, according to officials.

Flights Canceled, Delayed, and Diverted

Officials reported that 19 flights were canceled and two were diverted because of strong winds caused by a sharp pressure gradient. Many other flights were delayed, leaving travelers stranded and frustrated.

Damage to Property and Vehicles

The strong winds also caused damage to buildings and vehicles in different parts of the Kashmir Valley. In Srinagar, several trees were uprooted, blocking roads and damaging cars and houses.

Cleanup Operations in Full Swing

To clear the roads and ensure public safety, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) quickly started cleanup operations. Their teams worked throughout the day to remove fallen trees and debris, aiming to restore smooth traffic flow.

An SMC official, Mehraj Din Buza, told that, “The strong winds caused damage in many areas last night. Our team started restoration work early in the morning. We request people not to park their vehicles on roads or near trees, as they might fall. We are still receiving reports of damage from different areas.”

Safety Precautions and Weather Update

Authorities have urged people to stay alert and report any tree-related hazards to the SMC to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir have been changing rapidly over the past day. Daytime temperatures have increased by 0°C to 5°C in many areas. On Thursday, Jammu recorded the highest temperature at 34.0°C, followed by Kathua at 33.8°C.

Residents are advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines as cleanup operations continue.
