On Sunday, two separate and tragic road accidents occurred in Andhra Pradesh, leading to the deaths of six people and injuries to sixteen others. Both accidents happened on busy highways, involving multiple vehicles, including a Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV), a private bus, and trucks, causing significant distress and emergency responses from local authorities.
Srikakulam Accident: Four Pilgrims Die in MUV Crash
The first accident took place early Sunday morning in the Srikakulam district, near Yetturallapadu village in Kotabommali mandal, on the national highway. A Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) carrying pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh crashed into a stationary truck from behind. The group of pilgrims was on their way to the famous Srisailam temple, having recently visited Puri in Odisha.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the driver of the MUV may have fallen asleep at the wheel, which caused the vehicle to ram into the truck. The force of the collision resulted in the deaths of four devotees on the spot. The deceased were identified as Santoshi Bai (62 years old), Vijay Singh Tomar (65 years), Singh Pawar (60 years), and Kusal Singh (62 years).
Sixteen others traveling in the MUV were injured in the crash. Emergency responders and highway patrol teams quickly arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations and provide medical aid. The injured victims were rushed to the government hospital in Narsannapet for treatment. Local authorities continue to investigate the exact details and cause of the accident.
Nandyal Accident: Bus Collides with Two Trucks, Killing Two Passengers
On the same day, another devastating accident occurred in Nandyal district near Perayapalem village in Allagadda mandal. A private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Puducherry was involved in a collision with two trucks. The bus initially hit a truck, and moments later, a second truck crashed into the bus from behind.
The crash was severe, causing the immediate deaths of two passengers seated at the rear of the bus. In addition to the fatalities, ten other passengers sustained injuries, with four reported to be in critical condition. Emergency services promptly arrived at the accident site to assist the injured and manage the situation.
The local police have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision. Officials are reviewing driver statements, vehicle conditions, and road safety measures to understand the cause of the crash.
Safety Concerns and Ongoing Investigations
Both accidents have raised concerns about road safety and driver alertness on busy highways in Andhra Pradesh. Fatigue and possible human error appear to be key factors, particularly in the Srikakulam MUV crash. Authorities have urged drivers to take necessary precautions, including rest breaks, especially on long journeys.
The Andhra Pradesh police, along with highway patrol units, are conducting thorough investigations in both incidents to determine the full chain of events and to ensure accountability. Rescue and medical teams continue to provide care for the injured, while families of the victims are receiving support from local officials.
