Sheikh Shakhboot Urges Sudan Ceasefire at Quad Meet

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, took part in a Quad meeting held in New York, bringing together representatives of member countries along with the European Union and the United Kingdom.

During the meeting, Sheikh Shakhboot praised the leadership of US President Donald Trump for efforts aimed at preventing Sudan from falling deeper into extremism, division, and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

He also thanked the United States for organising the humanitarian conference and the Quad meeting held on 3 February in Washington, DC. He described these initiatives as important steps to maintain international focus on Sudan’s ongoing civil war and its severe humanitarian impact.

Sheikh Shakhboot welcomed the participation of the European Union and the United Kingdom, highlighting the need for strong regional and international cooperation. He stressed the importance of supporting a political transition towards a civilian government that is independent of the warring sides and extremist groups.

The UAE minister called for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce to allow aid to reach people across Sudan without obstacles. He further emphasised the need for a permanent ceasefire and a clear transitional process that would lead to a stable civilian government.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Sheikh Shakhboot held talks with several officials to discuss regional developments and broader international issues. The discussions focused on strengthening coordination and cooperation to promote stability, peace, and global prosperity.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment among participating countries to pursue political and diplomatic solutions to the crisis and to support international peace and security.
