Shah Rukh Khan Offered "Blank Cheque" to Gautam Gambhir for KKR: Report

Amidst the quest for Rahul Dravid's successor as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir emerges as a prominent candidate under the scrutiny of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Reports suggest that the BCCI's interest in Gambhir stems from a lack of viable alternatives, especially with overseas coaches withdrawing from consideration.

Recently, Gambhir, currently serving as the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024 season, reportedly received a tempting offer from Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of KKR. Allegedly, Khan extended a "blank cheque" proposition to Gambhir, urging him to commit to the franchise for the next decade during his stint with Lucknow Super Giants.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, Gambhir himself is keen on the role of India's head coach but seeks assurance of guaranteed selection if he decides to pursue the opportunity. Should the BCCI view Gambhir merely as a candidate among others, he may refrain from applying altogether.

As the BCCI intensifies efforts to secure Gambhir's contract, it is disclosed that Shah Rukh Khan is keen on retaining the former India opener at KKR for an extended period, hence the substantial offer.

The BCCI's pursuit of a new head coach has encountered hurdles, with prominent figures like Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, and Stephen Fleming reportedly rejecting offers to succeed Rahul Dravid. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has refuted claims of approaching former Australian cricketers for coaching roles, emphasizing the board's focus on individuals with a profound understanding of India's domestic cricket structure.

"Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process," stated Shah in response to media speculation. "We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks."

While Gambhir expresses interest in the head coach position, his discussions with Shah Rukh Khan regarding his tenure at KKR are anticipated to influence his decision significantly.
