Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in federal custody longer than initially scheduled, with official records now showing a revised release date. The 56-year-old music mogul, who began serving a 50-month sentence for prostitution-related convictions, is now expected to be released on June 4, 2028, instead of the previously scheduled May 8, 2028. Federal officials have not provided a direct explanation for the nearly four-week extension.
Conviction and Sentencing Timeline
Combs faced two federal convictions tied to transportation for prostitution, which were handed down in July 2024. In October 2024, the court sentenced him to 50 months in prison. He has been in federal custody since September 2024, initially held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn before being transferred to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Alleged Incidents in Prison
During his first week at Fort Dix, Combs was reportedly found with homemade alcohol, a fermented mix made from Fanta soda, sugar, and apples. Although prison officials considered a unit transfer in response to the incident, no action was ultimately taken.
Combs’ spokesperson firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating that he “has not violated any prison rules” and that he continues to prioritize sobriety and discipline while in custody.
Another reported incident involved Combs participating in a three-way phone call, which is prohibited by the Bureau of Prisons if an additional participant joins mid-call. His representatives clarified that the call involved his attorneys and fell under client-attorney privilege.
Prison Programs and Legal Appeals
While at FCI Fort Dix, Combs is enrolled in a drug-treatment program and works in the chapel library, according to his representatives. His legal team has indicated plans to appeal the sentence, arguing that Judge Arun Subramanian exceeded his authority during the October sentencing hearing.
Although prosecutors had sought an 11-year term, the jury cleared Combs of sex-trafficking and racketeering charges. His lawyers had argued for a significantly shorter sentence, closer to 14 months.
For now, the official release date is June 4, 2028, and any changes to this timeline will be updated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons on a case-by-case basis. Combs’ legal battles and appeals may continue to affect the length of his sentence, but as it stands, he will remain behind bars for the foreseeable future.
