Nikola Jokic delivered an outstanding performance as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 130–116 on Wednesday night in Inglewood, California. Jokic scored a season-high 55 points, guiding the Nuggets to their sixth straight victory in the NBA season.
The three-time MVP also recorded 12 rebounds and six assists, showing complete control of the game. He shot an incredible 18 of 23 from the floor and made 5 of 6 three-pointers. His 25 points in the first quarter marked the highest total for any single quarter in his career.
Jokic’s 55 points tied the highest total scored in an NBA game this season, matching the record set by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who scored the same number against the Indiana Pacers in October.
The Nuggets’ supporting players also made strong contributions. Aaron Gordon added 18 points, Jamal Murray scored 15, and Tim Hardaway Jr. contributed 12. The team continued its successful road trip, improving to 2-0 on their three-game away stretch after starting the season 1-2 in road games.
For the Clippers, James Harden scored 23 points, while Jordan Miller, playing his first game of the season, achieved a career-high 22 points. Ivica Zubac also played well, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds. However, their efforts were not enough to stop the in-form Nuggets.
The Clippers were missing two key players: Kawhi Leonard, who was out with an ankle injury, and Bradley Beal, who was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a hip injury announced earlier in the day.
The game started with Jokic dominating the first quarter, scoring 25 points by making 8 of 11 field goals and 2 of 3 shots from beyond the arc, while also converting all seven of his free throws. Despite his strong start, the Nuggets only led 39–35 after the first quarter as the Clippers kept up the pressure.
In the second quarter, the Clippers bounced back and took control of the game. They led by as many as 10 points and went into halftime with a 68–63 lead. However, the Nuggets came back stronger in the third quarter, displaying their offensive strength and scoring 43 points in that period.
During the third quarter, the Nuggets went on a 21–6 scoring run, capped by a running layup from Jokic that pushed Denver ahead 94–78. Jokic reached 50 points for the fourth time in his regular-season career after sinking a free throw with just under two minutes left in the third quarter. He also has one 50-point game in the playoffs, making this another special achievement in his career.
By the fourth quarter, the Nuggets were in complete control, leading 122–103. Jokic briefly returned to the court with six minutes left to add three more points before exiting with 3:29 remaining. His teammates finished the game strong, ensuring a comfortable win for Denver.
However, the victory came with some concern as two Nuggets players suffered injuries early in the game. Cameron Johnson injured his arm and did not return, while Christian Braun hurt his ankle. Braun tried to play through the pain in the second quarter but eventually sat out the rest of the game after halftime.
Despite these setbacks, the Nuggets showcased their depth and resilience. Jokic’s dominant scoring performance and leadership once again proved why he remains one of the most impactful players in the NBA. His ability to control the pace of the game, score efficiently, and involve his teammates made the difference.
The Clippers, meanwhile, have now lost six consecutive games, struggling to find consistency without their key stars. Their defense failed to contain Jokic, and although their offense looked promising in the first half, they could not match Denver’s intensity in the second.
With this win, the Nuggets improved their overall record and continued to strengthen their position in the Western Conference standings. Jokic’s incredible scoring night will be remembered as one of the highlights of the season.
Denver now looks ahead to completing their road trip with another victory, while the Clippers will try to recover and end their losing streak in the upcoming games. The matchup once again showed Jokic’s brilliance and the Nuggets’ championship-level form.
